Systems Administrator
The Role
The systems administrator works as part of a team who operate and maintain the business infrastructure platform to ensure the quality delivery of products and services to customers. They work closely with network, service or platform providers to ensure that they operate in accordance with agreed upon SLA’s.
Areas of responsibility
• Operation and maintenance of web and mobile infrastructure.
Ensuring the infrastructure systems providing the company’s services
operate effectively and efficiently. Ensure that access to the website
is available in a consistent and quick manner.
• Product support: ascertaining the cause of software and process
failures, fixing bugs, (with product development team) updating configuration,
dealing with data anomalies (with customer service team)
• Release management. Ensuring that new product, service or core
code releases are implemented with minimum disruption to service. Ensure
that releases are documented as to their schedule and impact to aid
in subsequent maintenance activities.
• Ensure that service, equipment and infrastructure providers
comply and perform in accordance with the terms of service, contracts
or SLA’s
Technical requirements
Essential:
• 2 years experience with high-volume transactional websites
• 2 years experience with high-performance backend systems, (e.g.
mail servers, LDAP servers, web servers)
• 5 years experience in general web technologies (e.g. HTML, JavaScript,
DHTML)
Desirable:
Experience in at least 1 development language, ideally a common web
scripting environment (e.g. PHP, ASP, JSP)
Experience with relational databases
Experience in and knowledge of Linux, Windows 2000 server
Experience in and knowledge of Windows office environment
