CV Advice
How to improve your CV:
These are a few things to consider when updating your CV.
Use bullet points rather than paragraphsParagraphs are great for your profile, but should not be used in the body of your CV. Always keep in mind that the recruiter will probably scan through many CVs and should be able to identify the main points within a few seconds.
Include information most relevant to the employer:Always remember that your CV is aimed at the employer. What may seem important to you is not necessarily relevant to the employer.
Your job title is very important in your work history, so list it first, followed by the employer, their location, and starting and ending dates of employment. Follow the same procedure when listing your qualifications.. The name of the qualification (don't use abbreviations), the institute, city, completion date and the majors. Your work history and qualifications are listed in reverse chronological order.
You don't need to state the dates for short courses or club membership. If space is limited, you can leave out the comment about references being available.
Don't write essays on mundane tasks and skills, and remember to use bullet points.
When listing your areas of responsibility, don't mix verbs and nouns, for example:Full budget control (noun).
Managing a team of two (verb).
Can be replaced by:
Full budget control
Team management
Remember to list your achievements for each position. Show how you have done more than what is expected. Your contributions to the company and team objectives should be clearly stated.
CV lengthEven though a shorter CV is preferred, you shouldn't cram the information to fit on one or two pages, as spacing is very important for ease of reading. Don't repeat tasks and accomplishments that are similar for every job. Also avoid having a full page followed by a quarter-page of information. Rather condense the content to one page, by adjusting the margins and by using a smaller font (but not smaller than 11).
Never use a CV of three to six months old. Update your CV for every job application.
